Discover the Small Village on the Ripe
A JOURNEY THROUGH NATURE, CULTURE, AND GOOD FOOD.
Turrivalignani is a village of about 800 inhabitants situated at 312 meters above sea level. The village's core is located on a sandstone hill from which you can observe the magnificent panorama of the Pescara Valley, surrounded by the imposing mountains of the Majella, Gran Sasso d'Italia, and Morrone.
The route consists of four stops that will offer the opportunity to observe the attractions that make Turrivalignani a village worth discovering, such as: Cave Dwellings, Abbey of San Giovanni and San Vincenzo, Earth Houses, and to conclude, social eating in a villa located in the territory.
The cave dwellings are accessible via a path below the badlands or commonly called "Ripe di Turri" where it is possible to observe the rare species of the Lanner Falcon. The route immerses you in a setting that combines history, nature, and geology. Observing and visiting the numerous caves built by the citizens of Turrivalignani at the base of the entire rock face allows visitors to take a step back in time and relive the difficult moments experienced by our people during the Second World War.
Continuing, it will certainly be necessary to visit the Romanesque church of San Vincenzo and San Giovanni Evangelista, which stands just outside the village of Turrivalignani (PE) and has undeniable historical and cultural value. The similarities with the important abbeys of S. Liberatore and S. Clemente a Casauria have led scholars to assign it to the 12th century. The area boasts a remarkable heritage of 47 earth houses, making it one of the few municipalities in the Pescara Valley where these ancient dwellings have been preserved and sometimes renovated.
Such a simple yet energetic, lively, and historical itinerary can only conclude with social eating in a splendid house in C. da Cugnoli, where homemade dishes with seasonal and zero-kilometer products grown directly by the many farmers who populate this small but interesting village will be tasted.
