A DAY IN PREHISTORY

Human presence in Abruzzo has been documented since the Paleolithic era. Numerous findings have shown that humans chose to settle in various locations across Abruzzo, evidenced by the countless discoveries of artifacts, engravings, and cave paintings found in the caves and shelters of the Abruzzo mountains. In many places, we have clear signs that Paleolithic and Neolithic hunter-gatherers also sought flint, a siliceous sedimentary rock essential for making various tools such as hunting weapons.

It will be an exciting discovery to reproduce the tools that shaped the daily life of primitive humans.

Our workshop includes an introduction to prehistory, flint knapping as used in the Paleolithic and Neolithic, such as choppers, amygdaloid tools, blades, scrapers, the working of deer antlers and bone, the use of the first throwing weapons, hunting techniques, and bow construction.

We will discuss Neolithic and protohistoric rock art of the Maiella and the use of minerals and techniques for making paintings.
